ABOUT THE AUTHOR
To be a friend of Richard Capes is truly a special honor. He does not have the typical artist's temperament. Richard is extremely intelligent, very quick and multi-faceted. The artist is spontaneous in thought, interjecting warmth and humor in his conversation.

Not only is he especially talented as an artist, but manages to convey in his work historical significance, whimsy, humor, fantasy, truth, charm, and an intimate feeling of connection with whatever he has drawn. From a simple small bird, to an architecturally complicated building, you feel related to his drawings.

An Artistic Tour of Siesta Key On my first visit to Siesta Key in 1979 I fell in love with the sandy paradise. Subsequently I spent every vacation here until i moved to the key in 1986.

In his book, Richard has created a thoughtful, enchanting tour of Siesta Key, including private homes, businesses, beach scenes, flora and fauna. He has incorporated his own observations in a running commentary that links the verbal with the visual. This habit grew from his student days when he was working on his Masters degree and one of his professors urged him to keep a daily diary. The concept of recording in a diary gained greater significance when he traveled through Italy, Mexico, and Central America.

The artist was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and loved to paint and draw as a child. At age six his parents took him to the Old High Museum of Art in Atlanta for lessons. Eventually, instructors at the museum encourage him to teach and he obtained degrees in both Art and Art Education. Richard has exhibited extensively, winning many awards for his paintings. He is an active member of both regional and national art organizations is listed in various publications such as Who's Who in American Art. If you have spent any time on Siesta Key you will be charmed as you wander through this book

If you have spent any time on Siesta Key you will be charm as you wander through Richard's drawings. If you've never been to "Siesta," you will be most eager to visit the Island. I look forward anxiously to find out the subject Richard will be developing in his next series of drawings
